Steve Guthrie mentors three design students for scholarship competition

Designer Steve Guthrie is a mentor for three student finalists in the Little Black Dress Designer competition. 

 

About the Little Black Dress Designer Competition

 
The LITTLE BLACK DRESS DESIGNER (LBDD) competition gives students and emerging designers the chance to re-imagine a fashion icon for a chance to win academic scholarships and incredible real-life career networking. 
The competition was founded in 2008 by Jeff Shell, director modeling and acting firm Neal Hamil Agency. Since the competition’s founding, LBDD has awarded more than $100,000 in scholarships to Texas students. Over $15,000 in scholarships were awarded due to this event.

Texas design students entered dresses into the LBDD Competition. Finalists were announced in October 2016.  In partnership with the competition, were social and fashion icons to be designated muses. These muses selected their favorite dress entries.

For nine months, the student designers collaborated with their muse to create a final design from their original entry. Mentors shadowed the process and offered design advice and critique to the students.

Steve Guthrie mentored Designer Arielle Griffin for Muse Joy Sewing/ Designer Kim Nguyen for Muse Gracie Cavnar/ Designer Dika Obiaju for Muse Dominique Sachse Florescu. 

 

In May 2017, the 7th annual LBDD revealed the final designs at Spire.
